´S´ for self love , ´S´ for skincare

My journey towards healing was much propelled by skin care . How? One may ask. To that my answer is self love. You see healing has much to do with boosting of self esteem and image. One of the best ways of doing so involves self care in a holistic and gentle way. Here, emphasis should be given in gentle ways as acts of self enchancement done out of hatred and negative outlook of oneself kills the whole purpose of it. Hence, the first step is kindness directed inwards for oneself. The next steps may or may not involve elaborate skincare rituals, but I can share mine.

To begin with it all, we need to analyse the places where our skin needs some extra care and love. Then devise proper plans targeted to sooth the skin , with proper help from a dermatologist. Some of my daily skincare routine includes:

  1. A good night sleep: A full fledged sleep routine enhances the secretion of melatonin which gives us a sense of fulfillment and restfulness. This gives our skin a supple glow of nourishment.

  2. Proper diet: A diet that includes antioxidants, macro and micro nutrients, provides a balanced gut health that again prevents unwanted breakouts and other complications.

  3. Hydration: Now this has a direct link with skin health as dehydration causes dry skin and cracks . Sufficient water intake is a crucial step.

  4. Moisturization : To lock in moisture one can use a mist spray bottle of toner, I use rose water , to go in first and then layer with a light or heavy moisturizer depending upon the season or climate of the place of the user, as humidity and climate also has an effect on our skin. For the entire body , one can use a body lotion or body oil to go in right after shower, while the body is still a little wet, this servers the same purpose as of the toner for face.

  5. SUN BLOCK: Now this is something one cannot miss, no excuses are accepted as skipping this step can make them susceptible to SKIN CANCER. A generous amount of sunscreen , of SPF not below 30 , shall do , I personally use SPF 50 wide range sunscreen , with UVA, B protection.

  6. Cleanser: Before doing the previous two steps one must use a gentle cleanser that does not dry out their skin.

  7. Sticking to the routine : Doing the above three steps without fail twice a day (sun block has to be replaced with night cream for p.m. usage) , incorporating it into our lives as a habit shall reap results in no time.

However, dearest reader, while venturing forth into the waters of skincare , you can be taken away with the elaborate steps of it. For such cases I assure you a simple routine with proper products as of mine does the trick very well. Needless to say skincare goes beyond its name and concerns overall care of our bodies, just the way it needs. Remember dear reader, our goal is to heal ourselves and NOT to replicate some celebrities online. As, you are beautiful and precious just the way you are and with such love and care , you shall shine even brighter.
